When did you get started? How many weddings have you planned? I’ve been doing weddings for about 6 years on and off. I started of selling wedding dresses, then i sold engagement rings, and then I worked for a planner. In total I have done 10 weddings
Would you consider yourself a DIY planner, or Luxury planner, or a mixture of all? I’m definitely a mixture of both. I genuinely listen to my clients what’s and vision and execute it.
What does a destination event planner cost?
What is the average budget of your clients? About 10-20K
How is your fee calculated? Flat fee, hourly rate, or something else? I have created packages based on the client’s needs
How do you help clients stay within their budgets? Working in accounting for years has helped me keep clients budget on track. I share with them that I’m frugal with my own and will be with there’s. We often place value on something because of the name, I try to share with my clients how they can get more bang for their buck while spending in the areas that matter most, like food, venue and so forth.
Do destination event planners work with other wedding vendors?
Do you offer decorating service or just ideas and suggestions based on what the client wants? I do referrals for decorating as I know some amazing decor people. However, If I have a DIY bride then my team and I will create the look she has in mind with the decor. My goal is to make the clients vision come to life, no matter what needs to be done.
Do you work with the vendors on times and schedules for the event or leave that to the client? Yes, working with me you get a customized shared spreadsheet with many tabs for transparency and progress. Having a corporate background is helpful in wedding planning. I think it also sets me apart because I understand how the business works from all ends. Our goal at MeChelle McGhee Wedding and Events is to make things easier, or as I say, Make Memories with Me’Chelle.
Do you have preferred vendors, or do you work with the vendors the client selects? Yes, I believe in creating a network of like-minded talents to work together.
Have you ever had a “bridezilla”? How did it go? NO! There is a Bridezilla clause in my contract. I don’t do the diva mentality because a wedding is bigger than the day itself. I tell my clients to focus on being husbands and wives while i focus on the day. The wedding day is for 10hrs max, but this marriage is forever.
Do you have a staff or assistants to help with planning or events? Yes, I have a mini team of people who help. I’m looking to extend my staff as the business grows
What does a Day of Coordinator do?
Are you a “day of planner” or a full-service planner? If you offer both, which do you prefer? I do both, but I prefer the day of planner
How much time before the event is ideal for the best planning? I specialize in Day of Coordination. Most people don’t like this, because you come in no later than 3 months out and have to make everything come alive. I thrive under pressure. It’s a challenge for me. I don’t mind planning 2 years out to one week out. Which I have planned a wedding in two weeks, let’s say sleep was non-existent during that time
What do you do if the venue has a day of coordinator on staff for the actual wedding day? I explain to the client that though they are helpful, their main goal is the venue and making sure it runs smoothly. My main goal is the bride, groom, and bridal party. I have worked with several onsite day of coordinators and we worked like well-oiled machines. One even noted how the day was of easy because they focused on the venue more and no mistakes took place.
